I completed a video project documenting our rail journey across Europe. Inspired by our train trip in Japan the previous winter, we chose to continue this approach in Ireland and Great Britain. As a replacement for a river cruise that was cancelled the previous fall, we also opted to explore Eastern Europe by rail.
Our itinerary took us to the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, before a flight to Romania. From Bucharest, we visited Transylvania, then continued by train to Bulgaria, with one segment completed by air between Sofia and Budapest due to the lack of a direct rail connection. The journey then continued through Hungary and Slovakia, concluding in Prague, Czechia.
While rail travel in Eastern Europe proved more complex than expected, the experience was particularly rewarding.
This journey crossed eight countries, totaling approximately 3,200 kilometers by train, 17 accommodations, and 47 days of travel.
I produced a series of seven short videos to document this rail adventure. I invite you to come aboard.
All aboard.
