Day 24 – Stanley – Jour 24

Le texte français suit…

We arrived in Stanley at sunrise…it was beautiful this morning but quite windy…we’ve been told that there is no such thing in the Falklands as a day without wind…Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands with a population of about 2,500, which is about 75% of the civilian population of the islands…there is a lot of history attached to this city, from the vessels like the Endurance docking in Stanley to the decisive battle of the 1982 Falklands war…we chose to go for a stroll at Gypsy Cove, where we got to see a small colony of Magellanic penguins…the highlight of the morning was the 6 Peale’s dolphins that were playing in the bay…spent a few pixels trying to photograph them… 🙂 …in the afternoon we took Highlights of Stanley tour by bus.

Nous sommes arrivés à Stanley au lever du soleil…c’était beau ce matin, mais assez venteux…on nous a dit qu’il n’y a pas de telle chose dans les Malouines comme une journée sans vent…Stanley est la capitale des îles Malouines avec une population d’environ 2 500 habitants, soit environ 75 % de la population civile des îles…il y a beaucoup d’histoire rattachée à cette ville, des navires comme l’Endurance qui ont accosté à Stanley jusqu’à la bataille décisive de la guerre des Malouines de 1982…nous avons choisi d’aller nous promener à Gypsy Cove, où nous avons pu voir une petite colonie de manchots de Magellan…le point culminant de la matinée a été les 6 dauphins de Peale qui jouaient dans la baie…disons que j’ai gaspillé plusieurs pixels à essayer de les photographier… 🙂 …dans l’après-midi, nous avons fait une visite des points d’intérêts de Stanley par autobus.
