Day 21…St. John’s, NFLD – Saint-Jean de Terre-Neuve…Jour 21

Well, our journey on the National Geographic Explorer is over…it was quite an adventure…I saw stuff I was hoping for but never thought I would…I will summarize our journey in a separate post when I get back home…we got off the ship in St. John’s, Newfoundland around 8:30 AM…from there we walked to our hotel which was about 400 metres from the ship…we were able to check in early at the Alt Hotel in St. John’s…once we figured out how all the buttons in this ultra-modern room worked, we went out for a walkabout…and I have only one word to say about our little walk in downtown St. John’s…WOW

Downtown St. John’s is a beautiful, colourful city centre…it has kept its charm over time…Water Street, I guess the main street in the city centre, is currently a pedestrian street…most likely because of COVID measures…lots of craft stores and restaurants…simply beautiful…we picked up our rental car this afternoon as we will be touring around the Avalon Peninsula over the next week…I ended the day with a Moose Burger at The Salt House restaurant located not too far from the hotel, on Water Street…tomorrow morning, we head to Witless Bay to check for puffins.

Eh bien, notre voyage sur le National Geographic Explorer est terminé…c’était toute une aventure…j’ai vu des choses que j’espérais voir, mais je n’aurais jamais pensé voir…je résumerai notre voyage dans un billet séparé à mon retour à la maison…nous sommes descendus du navire à St. John’s, Terre-Neuve vers 8 h 30…de là, nous avons marché jusqu’à notre hôtel qui se trouvait à environ 400 mètres du navire…nous avons pu nous enregistrer tôt au Alt Hotel…une fois que nous avons compris comment tous les boutons de cette chambre ultramoderne fonctionnaient, nous sommes sortis pour une promenade…et je n’ai qu’un mot à dire sur notre petite promenade au centre-ville de St. John’s…WOW

Le centre-ville de St. John’s est un centre-ville magnifique et coloré…il a conservé son charme au fil du temps…Water Street, l’artère centrale du centre-ville, je crois, est actuellement une rue piétonne…très probablement à cause des mesures COVID…beaucoup de magasins d’artisanat et de restaurants…tout simplement magnifique…nous avons pris possession de notre voiture de location cet après-midi, car nous ferons le tour de la péninsule d’Avalon au cours de la prochaine semaine…j’ai terminé la journée avec un Moose Burger (orignal) au restaurant The Salt House situé non loin de l’hôtel, sur Water Street…demain matin, nous nous dirigeons vers Witless Bay pour vérifier s’il y a des macareux.
