Day 12 – Penguin Palooza — Palooza de manchots – Jour 12

Well, today I got to see the Antarctica I remembered from 2009…up to now, while we made landings in areas where penguin colonies are established, the rookeries were not very populated…the penguins left the colonies early this year…this morning we landed at an old British Antarctic Survey station at Damoy Point in Dorian Bay near Port Lockroy…that site did not disappoint…there, we found a Gentoo colony that harboured quite a number of individuals and newborn chicks…the rookery and the scenery of the area reminded me of what Antarctica really should look like 🙂 …tonight, we will be going through the Lemaire Channel, that is a topic for a special post.

Eh bien, aujourd’hui, j’ai pu voir l’Antarctique dont je me me souviens de notre expédition de 2009…jusqu’à présent, alors que nous faisions des débarquements dans des zones où des colonies de manchots sont établies, les rookeries n’étaient pas très peuplées…les manchots ont quitté les colonies plus tôt cette année…ce matin, nous avons débarqué dans une ancienne station du British Antarctic Survey à Damoy Point dans la baie Dorian près de Port Lockroy…ce site n’a pas déçu…là, nous avons trouvé une colonie de Gentoo qui abritait un bon nombre de manchots et des poussins nouveau-nés…la rookerie et le paysage de la région m’ont rappelé à quoi l’Antarctique devrait vraiment ressembler 🙂 …ce soir, nous passerons par le chenal Lemaire, c’est un sujet pour un billet spécial.
