Allée des volcans – Day 11 – Volcano Alley

When we left Nemuro this morning, we went back inland into Hokkaido in a northwestern direction to get to the Akan-Mashu National Park…our first stop was at Mashu Lake, a crater lake in the caldera of the Mashu volcano…the lake is known to have the clearest water in the world.

From there, we headed to Lake Kussharo, another crater lake, the largest in Japan, where Whooper swans are the star attraction…we visited two sites where I had the chance to photograph them…let’s say that they tolerate humans quite well…but they were content to just swim…so, no landing or takeoff…but hey, nature gives us what it wants to give us.

After the photo session with the swans, we went to visit the geothermal park of Mount Iou…the show is quite impressive…afterwards, we registered at our ryokan, the Yoroushi Onsen Yuyado Dai-Ichi Ryokan…supposedly one of the best ryokans on Hokkaido…the registration procedure is quite impressive and comes with many instructions…one of the most important rules to follow, we can only wear stockings to circulate in the establishment…to see the floors and carpets, I am sure that the white socks they provide us will still be white when we return from dinner…it is here that we hope to see a Blakiston fish owl…the sighting will have to be done from the inside of the ryokan…they have created an observation post with a large window overlooking bird feeders…so there is no contact with humans…enjoy the slideshow.

Lorsque nous avons quitté Nemuro ce matin, nous sommes rentrés vers l’intérieur de Hokkaido direction nord-ouest pour nous rendre au parc national Akan-Mashu…notre premier arrêt était au Lac Mashu, un lac de cratère dans la caldera du volcan Mashu…le lac est réputé pour avoir l’eau la plus claire au monde.

De là, nous nous sommes dirigés vers le lac Kussharo, un autre lac de cratère, le plus large au Japon, où les cygnes chanteurs sont en vedettes…nous avons visité deux sites où j’ai eu la chance de les photographiés…disons qu’ils tolèrent les humains assez bien…mais ils se sont contentés de faire la baignade…donc, aucun atterrissage ou décollage…mais bon, la nature nous donne ce qu’elle veut bien nous donner.

Après la session photos avec les cygnes, nous sommes allés visiter le parc géothermal du Mont Iou…le spectacle est assez impressionnant…par la suite, nous nous sommes enregistrés à notre ryokan, le Yoroushi Onsen Yuyado Dai-Ichi Ryokan…supposément un des meilleurs ryokans sur Hokkaido…la procédure d’enregistrement est assez impressionnante et vient avec beaucoup d’instructions…une des règles les plus importante à suivre, on ne peut que porter des bas pour circuler dans l’établissement…à voir les planchers et les tapis, je suis sûr que les bas blancs qu’ils nous fournissent seront encore blanc lorsque nous reviendrons du souper…c’est ici que nous espérons voir un Grand-duc de Blakiston…l’observation se fera de l’intérieur du ryokan…ils ont créer un poste d’observation avec une grande vitrine qui donne sur des mangeoires à oiseaux…donc il n’y a aucun contact avec les humains…j’espère que vous apprécierez le diaporama.
